About Us The Car Works! Warren, RI
Paul Furtado - Owner
Paul started his automotive career in 1976 at the age of 17. He bought a 1948 Plymouth and shortly thereafter blew the engine in it. With the help of a more knowledgeable friend, he spent the next few weeks replacing the engine - and that's when the car bug bit him. After a stint playing the drums in a rock & roll band, Paul enrolled at the Rhode Island Trades Shops School and began his formal automotive education in 1979.
Upon graduating from trade school, he worked at several new car dealerships and a couple of independent shops for about 10 years. He was also an independent Mac Tools distributor for a while. In 1991, Paul decided to open up his own shop. He found a place in Warren, spruced it up a bit and welcomed his first client on July 2, 1991.
Paul has been an ASE Certified Master Auto Technician for over 25 years and also holds current L1 Advanced Level Engine Performance certification. Paul is also a Certified Inspection Technician and a Certified Inspection Repair Technician, specializing in the repair of automotive emissions systems failures. He is a past President of the former RI Chapter of the Alliance Of Automotive Service Providers of Massachusetts and Rhode Island. Paul is proud of also being the founding and Past President of the Automotive Service Association of Rhode Island. He has earned the prestigious achievement of being an Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) from the Automotive Management Institute (AMI).
Paul also has a radio gig - he has been "Automan" on WHJY (94.1 FM) radio for over 16 years. He is a regular monthly guest on a morning drive-time radio program, The Paul & Al show. Listeners can call in and ask any automotive related questions - about their car, their mechanic or anything else.
Greg Tavino - Lead Technician
Greg started his automotive career working part time at a gas station while in high school. He also earned the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout during those years.
After high school, Greg was enrolled in the Advanced Automotive Technology program at the New England Institute of Technology. Upon completion of his courses, Greg graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Advanced Automotive Technology and Business Management Technology. He then worked for a couple of major national automotive retailers as a lead technician and an automotive parts specialist.
In July of 2006, greg started his employment at The Car Works! While working here, Greg has successfully passed the required tests and has become an ASE Certified Master Auto Technician. He has also earned L1 Advanced Level Engine Performance certification.
